The face of the infant symbolises "Creation", the face of the old ascetic symbolises "Knowledge" or "Gyan", the face of the lion symbolises "Destruction". These three characters represent the states of human consciousness. The snake symbolises the awakening of the "Kundalini", a form of divine energy which transcends into the bliss of Yoga.
